The Healthy Banana Bread Batch That Makes Every Week Sweeter

Almost every Sunday, sometime between a slow morning and the realization that Monday is approaching, I make an oat four banana bread loaf. Three ripe bananas get pulled from the fruit bowl, the oven goes on, and before long, the entire house smells like warm banana, cinnamon, vanilla, maple, and chocolate.
It's a small ritual, but those are often the ones that make everyday life feel the most special.
At The Life Extract, we talk a lot about creating a beautiful life through the things we do repeatedly. Baking something you love on a Sunday afternoon is exactly that kind of ritual. It's ordinary, inexpensive, and simple, but somehow makes the whole day or week feel a little sweeter.
And this particular oat flour chocolate chip banana bread has become the recipe in my house.
My Sunday Banana Bread Ritual
I love having little rituals that signal the beginning or end of a week. Sunday is naturally a slower day for me, so making banana bread has become one of those things I genuinely look forward to.
If you want to romanticize your Sundays, bake something.
Put on music. Make a coffee or tea. Open the windows if the weather is nice. Clean the kitchen while your banana bread is in the oven. Suddenly, something as simple as preparing food for the week becomes an experience rather than another thing on your to-do list.
The Kind of Sweet Treat I Actually Want Around
Part of the reason I started making my own oat flour banana bread so regularly was because I wanted something sweet in the house that still felt nourishing. At The Life Extract, we believe that you should love yourself enough to live a healthy lifestyle.
This loaf is refined-sugar-free, dairy-free, and made without refined flour. Instead, its base is oat flour, which means you're getting a whole-grain source of carbohydrates and fibre rather than the white flour traditionally used in many banana breads.
Most of the sweetness comes naturally from three very ripe bananas, with just two tablespoons of maple syrup added to the entire loaf. Chocolate chips make it feel like a proper treat (I personally wouldn't skip them, but the bread itself isn't overwhelmingly sweet.) You can always alternate the chocolate chips for sugar free ones, or frozen wild blueberries.
That's what I love about it.
It satisfies that I need something sweet feeling without tasting like you're eating a substitute for the dessert you actually wanted.
It's banana bread. Proper, warm, chocolate-studded banana bread.
The Beauty of Having a House Recipe
I think everyone should have a few recipes they know almost by heart.
Not complicated dinner-party recipes that take hours to make. I'm talking about the recipes you make so frequently that you stop checking the measurements quite as carefully. The ones your family recognizes by smell. The ones you can make on a random Sunday without needing to run to the grocery store first.
There's something very homey about that.
This dairy-free banana bread has become one of mine.
It uses ingredients I almost always have around: bananas, eggs, vanilla, maple syrup, oat flour, cinnamon, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and chocolate chips. Nothing particularly elaborate, which is precisely the point.
A beautiful life doesn't need every ritual to be elaborate.
Sometimes it's three overripe bananas sitting on the counter and deciding that instead of throwing them away, you're going to make the house smell incredible.

Make the Ordinary Feel Special
One of my favorite things about baking isn't even the finished product. It's what happens around it.
It's seeing the loaf sitting on the counter under a tea towel. It's cutting the first slice while it's still slightly warm and watching the chocolate melt. It's someone walking into the kitchen and immediately asking, "What is that amazing smell?"
Food creates atmosphere.
And when you're intentionally trying to build a slower, more present life, those little sensory details matter.
This is the philosophy behind so much of The Life Extract: your life doesn't suddenly become beautiful once everything is perfect. You make it beautiful through attention.
You create traditions.
You repeat the things that make ordinary days feel good.
You use the nice plate on a Sunday afternoon for absolutely no reason.
And sometimes, you bake banana bread.
